In that time, the likes of Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Warzone have continued the gaming world's obsession with last man standing mode, and only now is PUBG finally getting an entirely new title, albeit coming exclusively to mobile devices.
Called PUBG: New State, the game was revealed in February 2021 alongside a cryptic announcement trailer that has naturally left fans eager to learn more about the upcoming survival shooter.

How anxious? Well, the game's developer, Krafton, recently announced that more than 25 million pre-registrations have been processed on the Google Play Store prior to its arrival (the pre-registration will hit the App Store in August). If you do, you will get an exclusive vehicle skin, but the real benefit is getting the latest updates, even when you can play.
We don't know exactly when that will be yet, but since alpha testing started in June, and will resume again in August, we're anticipating New State's arrival in the final quarter of 2021. Here, we break down everything we know about the game. , from its premise to its novelties.
We will update this page with new details as they are released, so stay tuned to TechRadar for the latest PUBG information.
- What is? A new Battle Royale game for mobile devices only.
- When does it come out? 2021.
- How much will it cost? Free to play, presumably with microtransactions.
What is PUBG Mobile New State?
First of all, it's worth clarifying that PUBG: New State is not PUBG 2 (which is why we hesitate to call it a sequel). Rather, it is a new battle royale game coming exclusively to Android and iOS, following the release of PUBG Mobile in 2018 and PUBG Mobile Lite in 2022.
The main difference from the original mobile-only game (and, for that matter, the console equivalent) is its futuristic setting - the game takes place in 2051 on a new map called Troi, and it will have suitably advanced weapons and perks.
PUBG: New State looks like it will come with several new features, which we will detail below, but it still looks a lot like the traditional PUBG experience that we know and love.
Interestingly, the game is being developed by PUBG Studio (the makers of the original PC hit) rather than Tencent, the team behind PUBG Mobile. In many ways, the mobile version of PUBG has overshadowed its older brother, particularly in terms of revenue (it was the highest-grossing mobile game in May 2020), so it makes sense that the original creators of the game are putting more emphasis on its clearly profitable mobile player base.
PUBG Mobile New State release date and price
An official release date for PUBG New State has yet to be announced, though Krafton has confirmed that it will arrive for iOS and Android devices in "late 2022."
However, gamers have been able to join the timed alpha tests, with an Android Police reporter capable of capturing a full hour of gameplay (which you'll find later in this article). Those tests have since concluded, but it's a good sign that game development is nearing completion.

Severe poverty and economic division have driven the city into an era of darkness.

Players can also pre-register on the Google Play store, as mentioned above, more than 25 million players have already done so, and the iOS pre-registration will hit "end of August".
Pre-registration simply means that the game will automatically download to your device upon launch. We have created a practical guide for those who wish to do so here. You will also receive a limited edition vehicle skin for registering early.

Krafton has confirmed that the next round of alpha testing will be open to both Android and iOS users, so iOS pre-registration must necessarily arrive before August 27 (when the next testing period begins).
In terms of price, the game will be free. However, like its predecessor, we also expect PUBG: New State to be littered with affordable in-game content such as skins, weapons, and future expansions.

With that being said, with the developers of the original game (which costs $ 30 / £ 30 / around AU $ 40) on board, there's a chance PUBG: New State will be free in a limited trial version and cost money to download on. its entirety. Still, we don't anticipate a mobile game to cost more than $ 5 (£ 5 / AU $ 6).
Krafton has since confirmed that the game "will be released as a free experience," but the above possibility is worth noting (although unlikely).
Although the announcement trailer didn't reveal many differences between PUBG: New State and its predecessor, the recently captured alpha test images hint at several of the changes we can expect from the new game.
The first obvious departure from current PUBG titles, which are currently set, is the new futuristic setting. Taking place in 2051 on a new map, an area called Troi, players can expect to navigate a sprawling city with a mix of suburban life and more natural areas.

With this new futuristic setting also comes a suitably futuristic range of new devices. In both the trailer and the reveal of the game, we saw drones that deliver loot, deployable combat shields, similar to what we have seen in Call of Duty: Mobile Season 3, and shiny new weapons, along with new vehicles, including type bikes. TRON. We also know that you will be able to customize weapons in the game, presumably in a similar way to Apex Legends' dynamic mod mechanics.
The developer also promises "ultra-realistic graphics that push the limits of mobile gaming," and that claim holds up to what we've seen in the game so far. You can take another look at these graphics in the launch trailer below.
Android Police's Matthew Sholtz said he shot the footage "at the highest graphics settings to show what's possible," adding that "the performance was solid all the time." Sholtz also said that the touchscreen controls "work well" and "can be customized quite easily through a wide range of settings."
The launch seems pretty far away.. or does it? 🤔

Expect to see a butter-smooth frame rate, then, and a marked visual improvement over its mobile-based predecessor, which is particularly poorly optimized considering it's designed for portable devices.
Regarding the minimum specs of the device, a Twitter account to share leaks for the game tweeted that, to run, PUBG: New State would require iOS 13 or later on at least an iPhone 6S and Android OS 6 on any Android device with at least less 2GB. RAM.

It's worth noting that these specs remain unofficial, but we're betting on their accuracy given the requirements of similar mobile-based games. As such, it appears that PUBG: New State will not be limited to just those with the latest hardware.
However, even with all those superficial visual changes, we still expect the game to play the same way as its popular Battle Royale siblings.
Parachute. Rummage. Survive Good luck.
